G8 Ministers of Finance to discuss writing off debts of the world`s poorest countries
Ministers of Finance of the countries-members of G8 will discuss writing off debts of the world`s poorest countries at the meeting to be held in Moscow on February 10-11, Alexei Kudrin has informed at the press-conference on Thursday.
According to him, Russia has joint the world initiative of writing off debts of the world`s poorest countries.
The country budget of 2006 allows to write off debts owed to it by 16 of the world`s poorest countries in Africa.
Kudrin underlined, that the problems of developing forms of support for such countries would be the subject of discussion at the meeting. He reminded that last year the Government made the decision about the cancellation of the debts of $37 billion to the poorest nations before the international financial organizations. In this connection, at the present time there is a problem of refilling the capital of such organizations.
Besides, according to Kudrin, Ministers of Finance will consider the issues of fighting infectious diseases, in particular, development of diseases monitoring network, working out vaccines, new medicines, and the issue of preventive measures against bird flu and non-spread of pneumonia.
